god the beginning of the episode is very reminiscent of Cas’ death and I just- have so many feelings..
YEP. Reminiscent, but also very different. It wasn’t sudden, or unexpected. They just ran out of time.
Someone needs to tell Cas how bad off Dean was after his death, though. Because Dean was still functional after Jack’s death. They were still looking for answers. Because it felt off, and they were right to believe it was not… natural… 😛
But heck… this was a very different reaction from everyone compared to 13.01…

“you aren’t a real parent until you’ve died for your child.” What about Sam? At the end of 13.23, he was ready to die, so Jack could live.
Yes, he was. I should add that to that post… I mean, he didn’t die in 13.23, but he did die in 13.21 on the way to rescue Jack and Mary, but that isn’t quite the same thing. But yeah, he faced LUCIFER, tried to put himself between Jack and LUCIFER, his greatest fear, and tells Jack to kill him to save himself. Not quite the same, but close enough.
Not many people are willing to stand up to Lucifer himself to protect someone. That’s the sort of thing you do for your kid and pretty much nobody else.
