Nick’s Prayer // 14.07

Okay but you literally cannot tell me that Dean “Profound Bond I Need You” Winchester did not have just as strong a call to Cas in the same situation of loss and desperation. 🙄

I’ve seen quite a few sentiments like this one. And one doesn’t negate the other. Nick’s bond to Lucifer isn’t stronger than Dean’s to Cas. In 13×03, Jack basically followed Dean’s profound grief to Cas. Dean wasn’t even actively praying to Cas. He didn’t even think to try I don’t think. He was just drowning in GRIEF, lost. He thought if praying to God didn’t work, who brought him back all those times before, that nothing would. So, Dean wasn’t even technically trying to bring Cas back.

The purpose of this whole thing with Nick in 14×07 was to show us what an Archangel vessel can FEEL post possession (and I’d argue Nick, too, is feeling grief). The show wants to establish that an archangel vessel has a certain connection (and corruption) to the Archangel, especially after prolonged possession. BUT, more importantly, the detail that’s important here is that Lucifer died with Jack’s grace in him. Jack and the Empty entity himself are like the only two beings that have any pull in the Empty itself. The Empty tells us this plainly.

It’s first Jack possessing his own grace, then Lucifer possessing Jack’s grace that did this technically. Jack’s grace both times. If literally any angel was in possession of Nephilim grace they’d be able to use strong emotions to do the same I’d imagine. If you wanna open the door, you gotta have the key.

Title: For A Dream’s Sake
Author: EllenofOz
Artist: Usarechan
Rating: Explicit
Length: 28510 words
Pairings: Dean/Castiel (Mary/Bobby implied)
Warnings: No Archive Warnings. Canon-typical violence.

Summary: Just four ingredients is all they need to reopen the rift. Archangel grace, the Seal of Solomon, blood of a most holy man, and a fruit from the tree of life.

Castiel returns from Syria with the fruit, saying that he killed some djinn and bargained with the rest. But just what bargain did Cas make with the djinni queen? What did he experience at her hands?

Heaven’s great leader of armies prides himself on his self-control, his steadfast courage under pressure. But when the djinni’s dream is everything he’s ever hoped for…

“Life, and the world, and mine own self, are changed

For a dream’s sake.”

So Lily Sunder is going to try to help Castiel’s adopted nephilim child even though Cas was part of the team who killed her own child, falsely accused of being a nephilim as a wonderful reverse mirror.

Which shows she’s forgiven Cas because he didn’t know the truth and she is just an all round good person and doesn’t blame him, in direct opposing to Nick in 14×07 too who still killed the guy even though he was possessed when he killed his family. Which is another link too to Sam and Dean letting go of their guilt of what happened when they were possessed by Lucifer and Michael and Cas too of his guilt over what he did when completely brainwashed by Heaven.

I’m loving this.

Cas used the ‘open line’ with his vessel to talk to Raphael, guess Nick is using that connection to try to call Lucifer?? Also, Micheal is probably doing something to Dean :(

Yeah, that open vessel phone line thing is a killer here. D:

I’m just wondering if Nick was also piggybacking on Jack’s ability to reach out to the Empty there, since he’d housed not only Lucifer, but Jack’s power as well…

These are all terrible phone calls.

🎣 Hey, Dean’s happy memory of fishing with his dad – do you think it was with John (if so, before Mary’s death or after?) or Bobby?

D:

oh gosh… I mean, the only context we have for that previous conversation Jack mentioned was what Jack said about it:

Jack: You once told me you and your father did the exact same thing. It was your happiest memory of him.
Dean: I didn’t say that.
Jack: It was how you said it. I could tell. I guess my point is that… if I don’t make it… The stuff I’d miss – it wouldn’t be things like Tahiti. Or the Taj Mahal. I’d miss more time with you. I’m getting that life isn’t all these big, amazing moments. It’s time that together that matters. Like this.
Dean: Well, who’d have thought hanging out with me would make you sentimental?

We don’t know how that conversation came about. Is this just something they’d been talking about on the way to, or on the way home from their hunt last week? Or have they just been having random chats about life in general that led to Dean talking about going fishing with his dad once?

Because with this context, I’d venture to suggest that he was talking about John. Whether it was when Dean was very young, or if it was later on and John took him fishing either as part of a hunt or to catch some dinner or just for fun… I have a hard time imagining that anything outside of hunting was ever just done “for fun” anymore. It would kind of make that a stand-out in Dean’s memory, and it makes sense that Jack would’ve picked up on that fact just from Dean talking about it openly, you know? It’s easy to imagine Dean recalling this event to Jack, and picturing Dean’s lil face journey.

(Bless Jensen’s face)

The fact we’re not sure of the context means we don’t know if it could’ve been referring to Bobby, though. He could’ve been talking about general fun human activities, or Jack could’ve been asking him about fun things he did as a kid, or they could’ve seen someone fishing and Jack asked why people would do something like that, just standing by the water while nothing apparently is happening, you know?

But without that context, it leaves it open for us to imagine it for ourselves, and it could easily be both things, or either thing…

I mean yeah they might get a little overbearing but you get the best of all worlds. Dean dad to take you fishing and make you go well over the speed limit in Baby. Sam dad to give you encouragement and teach you how to do the smart and be all mushy and stuff. Cas dad to pat down your collar and fill in the gaps. Like why wouldn’t you want that?

Dean dad to teach you the importance of pie and romance novels. Sam dad to teach you the puppy dog eyes and the bitchface, and Cas dad to teach you how he learned to navigate the universe and find his place in it…

And all three of them drop everything else to make sure you’re okay? Yeah they’re a good dad trio.

I’m pretty sure the name of the demon is Abraxas. It’s a Greek mystical word and also a famous Santana album. That’s what I heard when I watching anyway.

That’s what I’d initially typed, yeah, but I second guessed myself, and my mom doesn’t have tivo, so I won’t be able to watch it again until I get home next week to confirm it… but the superwiki did quote it:

Frank: I’m walking up the front path, no back-up and suddenly from outta nowhere, there’s this guy.
Nick: There’s this ‘guy.’
Frank: Said his name was ‘Abraxas.’

Abraxas was considered a pagan god by the Catholic church before being branded as a demon in the Dictionnaire Infernal in 1818. Second century heretics known as Basilidians believed Abraxas to be the supreme deity, who created the angels of which the God of Abraham was one.
