postmodernmulticoloredcloak:

People with blogs like mine are probably the ones, among the fandom blogs I mean, that are probably in the biggest pinch because you can’t just pick meta posts and discussions and repost them on a different platform like fanart. My stuff is not individual files I have saved on my laptop. I have texts posts that contain links to other posts, that contain pictures. I see fanartist saying they’ll be putting their things on twitter. I can’t. What makes my blog is the community that operates on tumblr around it. I am not interested in writing things for the sake of it either, I am only interested in the community around my blog and the interaction my posts get. And I can’t expect to just snap my fingers and migrate a 64k+ post blog on pillowfort or some other platform, not without pouring an amount of time and energy that I don’t have. I produce content on this site almost daily in addition to reblogging content. I am in a bad mood.

it’s true. The meta community doesn’t post in a vacuum. We talk to each other, expand on each other’s thoughts, and create long conversations across many blogs that can’t just easily be transported to another platform. I feel like I’ve invested the last six years of my life into these conversations, and it will be a loss not only for us as fans, but as a record of a ridiculous amount of history.

We’ve lost individual blogs in the past, lost important discussions, but there is just so much here to lose now it’s a bit overwhelming.

elizabethrobertajones:

the phrase “female-presenting nipples” has already lost all meaning in my head after reading it so many times… I’m left with the annoying mental image of a tit with ridiculous cartoon eyelashes and lipstick and a bow like cartoons do when they’re scared you won’t think something is female unless you put tits on a duck or something >.>

you have no idea how confused i was to come onto your blog and see a mule. i was terrified something had happened to you for a sec.

AAAAHHAHAHAH! OH gosh, sorry! Sometimes I reblog cute animals and other random things that I either tag “smol things” or “laugh rule” depending. I’m fine! I just haven’t had a chance to be online much in the last few days (or the next few days for that matter).

AND UGH THIS TUMBLR NONSENSE *shakes fist full of female-presenting nipples*

(and has anyone explained to me the difference between a female-presenting nipple and a male-presenting nipple? I’ve seen loads of nipples in my life, and they all look pretty much the same)

Staff: We’re getting rid of all adult content on Dec. 17th to combat illegal content!

Everyone: You do realize this ban only hurts the people producing legal content, right? Like, those small pages posting illegal stuff never tag their pages appropriately, and don’t care about having to remake a new blog if theirs gets nuked because they can just make a new burner account to post that stuff again.

Staff:

Everyone: The only adult content that will likely be spreading around would be the illegal content, since you are strong-arming the legally-abiding and responsible adult content creators who take care to tag and label their content and not post anything that’s god damn illegal.

Staff:

Everyone: That’s also assuming that there won’t be people that just continue posting adult content, either with censor bars or cuts to bypass the adult content check, or by just posting whatever anyway and not caring.

Staff:

Everyone: None if this even addresses the racism problems that people did have, including the adult bloggers you are now getting rid of. You can’t just get rid of text posts or images of disgusting rheotoric unless there’s a nipple in the mix, yeah?

Staff:

Everyone: Speaking of which, this new plan of yours still requires moderation, which is seemingly the main responsibility you are actively dodging with this adult content ban measure.

Staff:

Everyone: So now, basically nothing will have changed except for all the responsible adult content creators being gone that made up a decent number of your most active and loyal users, some of the most active critics and filters of racist content users being banned, and the only people being left posting illegal content or blatantly breaking your rules to post legal adult content to spite you.

How did you think this was going to pan out?

Staff: … but we said no adult content tho.

Although, this is valid, too

@winchester-reload theres actually a petition out to save NSFW tumblr! I dont know if you’ve seen it but heres the link…

Well heck, we might as well try!!!

PLEASE like and reblog this, and sign the petition in support of your favorite artists and ALL tumblr artists who don’t deserve to be penalized and punished for posting within tumblr’s original TOS. IF YOU DONT WANT YOUR TUMBLR TO BE BORING AF, AND YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS BANHAMMERED INTO THE EMPTY, boost this post. Remind tumblr that their users, our free expression, our content, and our communities are why we come here. Remind them that they’ve used these same content and creators to make Tumblr money and promote the platform, and kicking us all to the curb when that’s not the case anymore is UNACCEPTABLE. DO BETTER, TUMBLR.

PLEASE SIGN THIS

The ban won’t just screw over NSFW artists. It targets sex workers who operate on Tumblr. It targets LGBTQ+ content that’s as innocent as KISSING, because we’re seen as inherently sexual

Y’know what would be a nice option?  If Tumblr had a NSFW subscription option.  Those of us 18+ could have the option to pay a small monthly fee, and then artists could flag 18+ posts so that only subscribers can view/reblog them, and only 18+ subscribers could view the reblogs, etc.  And then artists should also get a cut of the subscriptions.

Patreon is cool and all, but I have to pay every single artist I follow, instead of just one subscription cost to a single site.  On Tumblr I follow roughly 300 blogs, and about half are artists.  Imagine if they were all Patreons and I had just the bare bones $1 subscription to all of them?  Too expensive =

That is the dream, though… being wealthy enough to do that.

(I use Ko-Fi a lot instead.)

we’ve been suggesting this for YEARS. Going back long before they ever introduced ads on the site. Loads of us shouted that we’d rather pay $5 or even $10 a month for full access to the site without ads. And tumblr was like naaaaahhhhh have some ads (that we all promptly blocked anyway). I mean, this is essentially what we were all begging for back then. Even $12 a year for limited posting but full access… I would do it in a heartbeat.

Dear SPN fandom,

theroadsofararchive:

These new set of Tumblr rules were of course exactly what we all wanted for Christmas (not).

Tumblr is flagging not-safe-for-work art pieces, due to be removed December 17. However, we are finding that even artwork that complies with their restrictions is being flagged. We’ve seen art of Cas playing with children that has been flagged, due to its beige colour scheme. As you can tell, Tumblr’s filters are not capable of doing the job that they claim will make Tumblr a safe space. We are less than happy about this, but we’re going to do our best to keep our collection of artwork intact. The admins are working on backups of everything right now, including our collection of nsfw artwork (by the way, we have a collection of nsfw artwork, and we were hoping to create a nsfw version of theroadsofararchive, but that will have to be reviewed now as we wait to see how Tumblr deals with this problem!).

It’s breaking our hearts how much this is already affecting the community (there are artists who are deleting their work!). The sad fact is that we can’t simply export everything to another platform because of copyright. No matter what, we will be privately preserving what art we have. We don’t want to lose this last decade of fandom history and creativity forever.

Nothing is going to happen to this archive. We will not be deleting or abandoning our site. However, we will be looking into creating another supplementary archive on Pillowfort, as they have stated publicly that they are invested in allowing fandom to flourish, which includes nsfw artwork. We encourage anyone who makes the choice to migrate their artwork to Pillowfort to contact us so that we can start building up the art community there.

We would also like to remind you that we are on twitter at @trsfarchive, if you are migrating over there instead.  Again, we encourage you to contact us so we can preserve and build up the art community as much as possible.

It’s a few weeks before Christmas, and all seems relatively quiet in the bunker. Sam is preoccupied with kitten videos on youtube, and Dean and Cas have been tap dancing around each other with a slightly more holly-jolly theme than usual. As Dean teaches Cas the true meaning of Christmas pie, Sam finds them a case just brimming with holiday cheer– a ghost with his own highly individual style who doesn’t deal well with critics. Let’s watch as they all learn their lessons, with fondly exasperated commentary from a slightly frazzled narrator who shares your pine-scented pain.
